A New Journey | 12×12 Open Edition Canvas Print
-
Inspired by her own extensive journeys through Asia, Australia, Europe and North America, Akiane painted two afternoon art series paintings, one after another: The Divine Compass and the New Journey. “The New Journey” symbolized the axis of the universal law—the law of movement, change and exploration and the inherent necessity for growth and experience.
The most powerful forces in the universe are in need of continuous renewal of energy, matter and spirit and in need of constant movement and conscious evolution.
For mankind the movement is life itself, and the invention of the sail came only second to that of the wheel. The sails literally became the man’s wings carrying his priceless treasures. The sailing journey is still to this day all about mystery and faith, art and science, freedom and duty, fear and excitement that require relentless resourcefulness and patience while slicing through the waves as the wind fills the sails. The sailors are always dependent upon a favorable wind and dynamic tides. The rough ocean always demands their attention. Each day, out on the water, a storm may capsize a boat. Each day there may be another thrilling adventure: a new secluded cove, a new hidden bay, a new remote fishing harbor or mysterious coastline. Akiane’s pastel and sunny seascape was purposely painted to gently awaken curiosity and courage within us while her light and cheerful brushstrokes were meant to invite the sanguinity and vitality to our spirit.
There is a profound sense of oneness with the sea and the wind for those who use nature to move across water and gaze up at the starry night sky. Here the meanings grow, and time stands still. With each wave there is also a sense of fellowship and trust that deepen among fellow seafarers. Humanity is and will always be one with water—the liquescent cosmos. Living waters free our soul, while living in water feeds and frees our bodies allowing humanity to continue its progress without losing its emotional and spiritual anchors.
